Event Not Recorded

  1. Verify a recordable tape is in your VCR. There is a safety tab on all VCR tapes. When the tab is removed, the VCR cannot record to that tape.
  2. If you were using the receiver's Event Timer* function, verify nothing is or was covering the front of your satellite receiver or your VCR.
    • The receiver sends a signal to your VCR to tell it to record and stop. This signal is sent out from the front of the receiver and must be received in the front of your VCR. It operates just like the signal from your remote. If you have cabinet doors or the receiver and VCR are in different rooms or cabinets, the Event Timer function will not work. *If you are unsure if your model has the Event Timer feature, select Menu on your remote to view the Main Menu. If you see a menu option (#7 on some models) named Timers, your receiver has this function. This is also not to be confused with a "VCR Timer" which is a function of your VCR and does not need to be set when you record satellite programming using your satellite receiver's Event Timer function.
  3. Verify the Event Timer was set properly.
    • Press the Menu button on your remote.
    • Then select the Timers tab from Main Menu.
    • Use your remote to highlight and select the event you set to record. Select on Edit.
      • This screen will tell you when the timer was set to fire and if it was set to record. If the Timer Type is not selected on VCR, it was not set to record.
  4. Verify the proper VCR code is saved in the receiver.
    • Press the Menu button on your remote.
    • Then select the System Setup tab from Main Menu.
    • Then select the Installation tab from the System Setup menu.
    • Then select on VCR Setup from the Installation menu.
    • Then with a recordable tape in your VCR, select on Test.
      • If your VCR operates the following screens, the VCR code is set up properly. If it does not, you will need to enter the correct VCR code, found in your DISH Network User Manual.
    • Verify your VCR was turned on. The receiver tells your VCR to record and stop only. It will not tell your VCR to turn on. This is different for most timers that are built into VCRs as they require the VCR to be turned off or in a standby mode. When using the satellite Event Timer function leave your VCR on at all times.
    • If you were using your VCR's timer, verify the timer was set properly. In addition to leaving your VCR in the On position, it is necessary to leave the VCR tuned to the same channel as you would tune your television (examples: channel 3, 4, or Video) when you are normally viewing satellite programming. VCR timers cannot be set to record a DISH Network channel. Use your VCR's User Manual for VCR timer troubleshooting.
